The blogosphere has been aflutter over young Shiloh’s,
predilection for boys’ clothes since Life and Style broke a cutting report on
her shocking deviation from culturally proscribed norms. “Why is Angelina Turning Shiloh Into a Boy?” ran last week’s headline. Actually, Angelina isn’t
dressing any kids these days. She has been talking about Shiloh’s style a lot, but
that’s because she’s working, doing
the promo circuit for Salt. It’s currently Brad’s turn to style the kids’
faux-hawks and suit them in miniature motorcycle jackets. But thank you, Life
and Style for reminding us that if our world becomes flooded with short
haired-women in polo shirts, we’ll know to put the blame squarely on mothers.
There’s
more:
When Brad
Pitt was spotted in Paris on Feb. 23, it
looked like he and Angelina
Jolie had adopted a new child -- an adorable
blond boy. Instead, it was the couple's 3-year-old daughter, Shiloh, sporting boys' clothes and a new
haircut so shockingly short it immediately ignited a firestorm of controversy.
That’s right, a firestorm of controversy, one that extended
all the way to the super-conservative think tank Focus on the Family. Here’s
what Glenn Stanton, director of Family Formation Studies at FoF told Life and Style:
Little girls have never
been women before. They need help, they need guidance of what that looks like.
It's important to teach our children that gender distinction is very healthy.
Just think what might happen if Angelina continues allowing
her daughter to forge her own path towards self identity. One day Shiloh may grow
into a pants-wearing, punk-ass tomboy, maybe
even a lesbian, and our collective heteronormative dreams for the girl will
be shot to hell. Now who’s going to marry Brooklyn Beckham and produce the next
generation of celebrity superchildren? It looks like this is a firestorm that will
smolder for years to come.
This is so funny. My daughter is just the same way and we deal with it the same way.

Oh for gods sake. She's a little girl...leave her the hell alone..if she wants to dress like a little boy for now, so be it. I'm 50 and I still prefer jeans and t's.

I grew up with an older sister and brother. My sister's clothes were too big, so I got my brother's hand-me-downs. Jeans, checkered shirts, even pj's. It wasn't because I wanted to wear them. That is what I was given. I am 61 yrs. old, I know who I am, I am womanly, and I didn't care when I was a kid. Give it a rest! She doesn't want dresses. So be it!

She's a little girl who clearly idolizes her big brothers and wants to be just like them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, i think it's rather sweet.

Very glad to see that the general population is rational about this, I don't understand what that @#$#@ magazine's issue is
