"For Angelina, the tattoo is more serious than a wedding ring. 'She got the seventh line right around the time she and Brad moved the kids back to LA,' says an insider — and the timing is very significant.
After dragging their kids around the world, Angelina, 35, has finally agreed to Brad’s long-standing request to settle down. But in return, she demanded a permanent commitment — the tattoo, which 'signifies family unity.' In other words, Brad is part of Angelina’s family now — tied to her forever. And she’s acting differently as a result.
On a recent visit to New Orleans, where Brad, 47, was shooting Cogan’s Trade, she texted and visited him on set so much that a distracted Brad asked her to go home. As great as commitment is, Angelina should know that everyone needs some breathing room — even family!”
[from InTouch]
I think it’s sweet that Angelina has added Brad’s coordinates to her family tattoo, but abhorrent that InTouch has used the gesture as another excuse to paint her as a needy, possessive shrew. Listen up InTouch: Angelina Jolie doesn’t need a tattoo to tie Brad Pitt to her forever. She already shares six children with the actor, and they create a much stronger bond than any body art ever could. Even if the tattoo does signify “family unity”, it’s safe to say that it’s just a symbolic gesture, representative of an already established union.
But I suppose I should take a moment to thank you, InTouch magazine, for reminding us that women, especially women like Jolie, who defy simplistic classifications (Is she a bitch? A sweetheart? Neither? Both?) will do anything we can to entrap a man. I like your suggestion that between completing UN missions, performing in films, appearing at public events and raising six children, Angelina Jolie spends her spare time with steepled fingers, scheming dastardly plans to keep Brad Pitt by her side.
Remember ladies: it’s not enough to be smart, beautiful, talented and bound by family blood, love and duty. You must also be scheming and manipulative if you want to control your man. And that’s what we all want to do right?
Ugh.
In other news, here are some shots of Jolie at the Tunisian-Libyan border. She visited Tunisia to raise awareness about the 400,000 plus refugees fleeing war-torn Libya. You can watch a video about Jolie’s UN trip here. It’s a potent reminder that no matter how sexist and vile our tabloids get, we’re very lucky if they're all we have to worry about.
This is a very well written piece! I'm not an Angelina Jolie fan, and for the most part, I could care less about Brangelinaston drama, but I have to say this whole situation demonstrates how completely backwards we are as a society. And I'm not even just referring to the tabloid coverage, but people's comments regarding said coverage. What people don't seem to get is that it takes 2 people to have an affair. I certainly don't think it was very nice of Angelina to sleep with Brad, but I don't think she "stole him". Whatever his reasons were, he made the choice to cheat on his wife. (It's not like Angie rufied Brad and locked him up in her sex dungeon and writhed on him until he developped some sort of perverted form of Stockholm Syndrome, and then agreed to stay with her!). And Angelina doesn't strike me as being very insecure -like you said, she's a very busy lady, and I'm sure she does okay on the man front ... if Brad up and leaves her, her life will go on.
I'm also fed up of hearing about Jennifer Anniston's sad, lonely spinster life. Comments like "why can't Jen keep a man?" are infuriating! She's an attractive, intelligent, succesful woman, who already did the marriage thing, and it's entirely possible that she's just at a point in her life where she's enjoying her freedom. Nobody makes these kinds of comments about George Clooney - he's just a charming bachelor - no woman can tie him down! it's such a double standard! So, yes, tabloids are sexist, but they probably wouldn't get away with that kind of attitude if it wasn't reflected in many of their followers.
Okay - I'll step off of my soap box now! :)

Loved your comment Tea Rose! I too am sick and tired of the whole Brangelinaston drama. It would appear the parties in question have gotten over the drama, (as they should since it was over 5 years ago) so why can't the rest of the celebrity following world?
The tabloids really can't be blamed, they are only feeding what the majority want to read. Although it would be nice if they took the high road and moved on to something more current.

Devon, it was indeed a well written piece. So true. I think it's the first time I read something about her that is not completely biased and shows "the side" the writer is on. The idea of adding her partner on her skin in tattoo form is a sweet gesture.

Sweet or not, she was the "Other Woman." Brad Pitt broke his wedding vows when he made the choice to be "with her", and she didn't seem to take his then-present marriage into consideration. These two people committed adultery and she admitted it after much denial!

Nice article indeed and nice comments (except for Anon who obviously still not get it). I wish that the media would spend more time covering the humanitarian /charity work that celebrities are part of. This is where the attention should go: Raising awardness!. They have the power to do so and celebrities like Angelina (Tunisia, Lybia and elsewhere) and Brad (Louisiana) are doing a great job at it. Why can't media focus on those important issues instead?

@ tea rose...loved your comments and agree with you.

Can't stand her or Brad and yes it definitely takes two to tango. Does anyone really care about them besides the nasty tabloids and the paparazzi? NO!!! Really people, aren't there way more important things in this world to contend with?

@ Tea Rose - thank you! I've been saying all that since the beginning.

tea rose - lots are saying the "love your comments regarding tabloids". Big deal. You're two faced...all of you. You are here, you are reading, and you are commenting. This is a tabloid as well. Your fools if you don't know that. The author as well as you people have all commented on your "opinions" of all celebrities mentioned in this article and have even added your own celebrities to the covo. Don't try to BS yourself or us. You are part of the vast majority of celeb watchers. Don't try to be so "holier than thou". It just makes you look like idiots.

First of - thanks to those who gave a thumbs up on my post!
I must address "I" though. I read and post on the gossip pages - I have never made any pretense about doing so. It's a guilty pleasure. Generally I get annoyed when people come to the Celebedge pages and start getting pissy with the writers for doing their jobs. If you want serious news, this isn't the site for you. Now, if you would have actually read my post, what I was agreeing with is that the tabloids are SEXIST. And that is a stance that I have maintained in all of my comments on the gossip boards (well, when it's relevant to the story I'm commenting on). How this makes me "two faced" or "holier than though" is beyond me. And the fact that you were unable to grasp the gist of what I said (most likely because you skimmed through what I had written and decided to inject yourself into the thread just to be controversial) makes YOU look like the idiot. Maybe the next time you decide to pontificate on the morality of observing celebrity culture, you might want to make sure you actually understand what you are reading. Just saying.

@fool and @chas: Aren't you clever! Has it occurred to you that this is the point of "raising awareness" - so that people discover what is going on in other countries? How is it supposed to be done if it's not documented? What would have been the point of her going there quietly on her own, and then not telling the world about what is going on? Celebrities (not all of them, of course) use people's fascination with their lives to illuminate certain important issues, so please, next time think before writing something.
Posted by: DN | 04/14/2011 at 01:07 PM
Both Tea Rose and DN, have made excellent and "worth reading" comments. Personally, I find it remarkably stupid that so many people judge and condemn Angelina because "Brad" cheated on Jennifer during their marriage and ultimately left her. Their marriage was obviously in trouble long before Angelina came along. She just happened to be the exotic creature he fell in love with. Wake up people, this happens every day, every hour, every second all over the world. I abhor dishonesty in couples, but get a grip, life goes on, people change.
On another note, I agree with DN and the impact celebrities make when involved in real life dramas, and the need for all of society to reach out and help in any way they can. That is what we should focus on. Not their personal lives but the good they do with their time and money. We can all take a lesson from that no matter how small our input.

there have been loads to times when angie wasn't documented doing her good work...we should all aspire to be as worldy as her...

@chas, you may not like Angelina, or even Lady Di for that matter, but at least show some respect for the dead.
I belive that Angelina, and Lady Di, are genuine in their humanitarian efforts, otherwise why would they risk their lives for a publicity stunt? Angie frequently visits refugee camps where the danger is still very real, and Lady Di frequently visited abandoned mine fields and third-world medical centres. She could have been blown up, or contracted some disease, but she went anyway.
